How to update to iOS 17
1. Remove any previously installed Beta Profiles:
- Tap: Settings app General VPN & Device Management Beta Software Profiles
- Remove Profile
- Repeat to remove additional Beta Profiles.
2. Then install new Beta Profiles:
- Download the correct developer profile (iPhone or iPad) using Safari on your device.
- Open the Settings app. Tap the new option:
Settings app Profile Downloaded - Verify that the profile is secure and signed by Apple Inc. Verified
- Install the iOS 16 Beta Software Profile. (iOS 16 is the profile version only. You will install iOS 17.) iOS 16
- Restart. Once the restart is complete…
- Wait an additional 2 minutes before opening Settings app.
- Then check for updates:
Settings app General Software Update
Automatic Updates: Off
Beta Updates: iOS 17 Developer Beta - Verify that you are installing iOS 17 Developer Beta iOS 17
3. Troubleshooting
- Check to see if the beta profile was removed after restarting:
Settings app General VPN & Device Management iOS 16 Beta Software Profiles - If this beta profile was removed, disable automatic updates:
Settings app General Software Updates Automatic Updates: Off - Repeat steps 1 to 8 above.

Apple has limited support for developer profiles. We are currently using iOS 16.6 profiles to install iOS 17.

Downloads for Mac and PC
While we only recommend over-the-air updates, you can also download and install iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 with a Mac or PC:
Install on a Mac or PC:
- Download the .ipsw file for your device (see lists below).
- Launch iTunes (PC) or the Finder (Mac) and connect your device.

Mac: Hold the option key down and select the Update button.
Windows: Hold the shift key down and select the Update button. - Select the .ipsw file you downloaded for your device.
- After installing the beta, your device will reboot and will require a network connection to complete the activation process.
